Job summary
This is a substantive Consultant post in the Transplant Unit at RPH. We are seeking a Consultant Cardiologist with expertise in Advanced Heart Failure, Mechanical Circulatory Support (MCS) and Heart Transplantation.
Our Cardiothoracic Transplant program began in 1979. We have performed more than 1600 heart transplants, 800 lung transplants and 350 heart-lung transplants. We have the world's greatest experience of DCD heart transplantation. We have implanted more than 100 continuous flow left ventricular assist devices as a bridge to heart transplantation and use multiple forms of short-term MCS, including VA ECMO, Impella and CentriMag VADs. We provide life-long care to around 600 patients who have undergone heart transplantation. Long-term survival from time of listing for heart transplantation and time of heart transplantation itself, are consistently among the best in the United Kingdom.
The post-holder will join the existing team of five Consultant Cardiologists, three Consultant Respiratory Physicians and contribute to all activities of the service. The post-holder will be a member of the Transplant Cardiologist Consultant of the Week rota and will participate in the out of hours rota.

Main duties of the job
1.Care of transplant patients in conjunction with the other transplant physicians throughout the assessment process, immediate post-transplant care and life long follow up of Heart Transplant patients.
2.Provide ward and intensive care management for heart transplant patients and advanced heart failure patients and cover for lung transplant patients during on-call weekends.
3.To ensure that national heart failure and transplant standards are maintained and developed through clinical audit, evidence-based practice and appraisal.
4.Contribute to the training of junior doctors in accordance with standards required by college, Postgraduate Dean and hospital.
5.Demonstrate a commitment to continuing professional development.
6.Expand Advanced Heart Failure, MCS and Transplant-related research as part of an agreed research plan.
