Job summary

This 12-month, fixed term post is an excellent opportunity to act as lead clinician in a dynamic, highly specialist Critical Care (CCA). The role involves advanced assessment and treatment provision to a range of patient cohorts including, cardiothoracic surgery, ECMO, mechanical circulatory support devices, heart failure, transplant, and cardiology patients.

The post holder is responsible for leading, mentoring, and supporting development of the CCA and wider physiotherapy teams. There are opportunities to develop leadership and advanced clinical skills with support of the Physiotherapy Service Lead. There are opportunities to gain experience in specialist Physiotherapy groups and engage in further CPD.

The individual will have the opportunity to work with key stakeholders and the wider Critical Care MDT to advance the service provided and coordinate patient care. Within the role the post holder will engage in audit and research and support colleagues with service improvement work.

The CCA team lead will work closely with the Physiotherapy Service Leads and Team Leads to support service delivery, coordination, and development. Collaborative working with the Physiotherapy Service Lead, Advanced Practice Critical Care Physiotherapist and Cardiology Pathway Lead, and Deputy Team Lead on Critical Care are essential.

Main duties of the job

*Attending Trust level meetings including CCA Business Unit Meeting and Trust wide Tracheostomy group

*Attending CCA level meetings including MDT meetings and Morbidity and Mortality meetings

*Involvement with the ECMO Physiotherapy Network

*Leading audit, research, and service improvement projects

*Leading the CCA Physiotherapy Team

*Mentoring colleagues

*Attending departmental management meetings to review and manage the Physiotherapy service

*Using advanced clinical reasoning skills to assess and treat complex patients

*Supporting colleagues to advance their clinical reasoning skills to achieve rotational goals and/or advanced CCA competencies including tracheostomy decannulation

*Providing teaching to physiotherapy colleagues and the wider CCA MDT

*Working closely with other Team Leads, Deputy Team Leads and Service Leads to coordinate service provision

*Exploring opportunities to provide teaching outside the Trust

*Seeking out CPD opportunities such as conferences and courses
