As a research support technician, you will provide high quality, efficient and complete administrative support service to the patient-facing R&D team. You will communicate with patients with kindness and understanding in customer facing role; be it, face to face, in writing and over the telephone. Tasks will be performed in a timely fashion in line with department and Trust guidelines. You will work with clinical research teams, providing department-wide laboratory support, including sample processing, storage, packing, tracking and transfer, liaison with couriers regarding shipment, as well as personally assisting with transportation around the Cambridge Biomedical Campus.

Main duties of the job

You will oversee the department storeroom to ensure, along with other department staff, that it is kept in a clean, tidy, safe and workable state. Stock control and ordering of the equipment required for routine clinical, administrative and laboratory work is also part of the role. You will be based with the Thoracic Oncology research team, and will support all research-active clinical specialities across the department. The post is based at the new Heart Lung Research Institute and at Royal Papworth Hospital which are co-located on the Cambridge Biomedical Campus.

Essential

  • Minimum of GCSE Grade qualifications, or equivalent to include English, Mathematics and Science.

Desirable

  • Professional, academic and/or vocational education/training in relevant subject(s) at A' level or above, or equivalent skills and knowledge acquired exponentially.

Experience

  • Previous experience of working in a clinical, administrative and/or laboratory environment
  • Ability to communicate effectively, courteously and professionally with R&D colleagues, staff from other departments, patients, visitors and external contacts at all times
  • Excellent personal organisational skills, with the ability to adapt to changing priorities calmly and efficiently.
  • Able to achieve and maintain high levels of accuracy and precision in practical aspects of role (e.g. sample processing) and in administrative duties (e.g. entering data in to electronic systems)
