Job summary

To enable us to meet the future needs for our services we have invested significantly in our emergency services and have embarked on the development of a career pathway for post registration paramedics and a new operating model for specialist and advanced paramedics in both urgent/emergency and critical care. Through this programme we are now seeking two individuals who have the drive, leadership skills and clinical excellence to take on the new, exciting, and challenging role of Advanced Paramedic Critical Care.

The post holder will provide advanced and specialist clinical management and coordinate the care of patients with complex and challenging health care needs, responding to patients with acute or critical illness, serious injury or major trauma in emotive and demanding situations or environments.

The posts available are 1 x West Yorkshire and 1 x South Yorkshire. This opportunity is open to applicants qualified to an MSc or to a trainee post qualified to a PG Dip.

The post holder will be expected to work across the footprint of YAS, including EOC our HART and HEMS bases.

Main duties of the job

We are seeking two qualified paramedic registered with the HCPC with the minimum 3 years post registration experience in a critical care role and with demonstrable experience working within a clinical supervisory/leadership role.

Applicants for qualified posts should meet the essential criteria for the role, already holding an MSc in advanced clinical practice (or equivalent)

We also welcome applications to trainee posts from those who meet the essential criteria for the role and hold a PGDip in advance practice (or equivalent).

In addition to providing an operational response, Advanced Paramedics Critical Care will provide direct clinical supervision to a team of Specialist Paramedics Critical Care and contribute to the clinical supervision, leadership, advice and support of the wider operational clinical team.

Qualifications / Knowledge

Essential

  • Holds a Master's Degree (MSc) Advanced Practice or Advanced Clinical Practice or equivalent MSc as assessed by the Consultant Paramedic (Urgent & Emergency Care)
  • Full UK Driving licence to include C1 category. Licence must not be endorsed with more than 3 penalty points at the time of appointment.
  • Teaching and/or mentoring qualification
  • Demonstrates an understanding and application of the principles of Crew Resource Management (CRM) and Human Factors in operational and clinical environments
  • Registered Paramedic

Desirable

  • Completion of other relevant clinical courses relevant to area of specialism

Experience

Essential

  • Significant post registration experience, at least 3 years working as a Specialist Paramedic (critical care)
  • 3 years' experience as a Specialist Paramedic or Advanced Practitioner
  • Demonstrable portfolio of significant relevant and recent CPD
  • Commitment to rotational working through other clinical settings

Desirable

  • Experience of working in other clinical settings and as a solo responder
  • Experience of working within a supervisory role.
  • Experience or working within a remote assessment environment/setting
