Job summary

We have an exciting new opportunity for a Band 5 Assistant Psychologist to join the Community Learning Disability Service in Leeds. The Learning Disability Service is passionate about improving the health outcomes and lives of people with a learning disability and actively involving and advocating for people in their journey through services. This role would suit an experienced and motivated psychology graduate who is interested in broadening their knowledge and skills by working with adults with a learning disability within a multi-disciplinary community team setting. Experience of working as an Assistant Psychologist or equivalent role in health, social care, private of voluntary sector organisations with people with mental health difficulties and/or learning disabilities, skills in undertaking psychological assessments, and confidence in working within a multi-disability team environment is essential.

Main duties of the job

The role will provide development opportunities in psychological and neuropsychological assessment skills working into the Assessment and Referral team and dementia assessment pathway. Supporting the Positive Behaviour Support pathway will involve undertaking a range of assessment methodologies, risk assessment, developing and evaluating support plans, in conjunction with MDT colleagues, under the supervision of a qualified psychologist. The role will also offer experience of psychological formulation, consultancy and well-being interventions working alongside the learning disability psychology team. Working in learning disability services involves working with a range of staff in different settings, which will facilitate knowledge and understanding of systemic ways of working. There will also be opportunities for involvement in audit and service improvement initiatives. The postholder will be required to work across different teams depending on psychology waiting list demands, so the ability to work flexibly, adapt to new settings and integrate with different practitioners will be essential skills.

The Trust has a network of psychological practitioners working into varied services, offering opportunities for networking and continuing professional development to enhance learning.

The post holder will be based at St Marys Hospital in Armley, but the role will involve community working and working across different learning disability teams located in different bases across Leeds, hence, being a car driver is an essential requirement.

You must have a degree eligible to hold Graduate Basis Chartered Membership (GMC) with the British Psychological Society (BPS) to be offered this post.
