Charge Nurse

The closing date is 13 April 2026

Job summary

We have an exciting opportunity for a RMN to join our senior nursing team on the Mother and Baby Unit within a charge nurse role. We are looking for someone who will work closely with the ward manager, charge nurse and wider members of the senior multidisciplinary team. We are looking for a role model who can support the clinical team to deliver quality care to mothers and their families.

Our unit is an inpatient facility offering treatment and support to mothers across the Yorkshire and Humber suffering from severe mental illness either in the latter stages of pregnancy or up to 1 year post delivery of their baby. Where it is clinically indicated, we admit the mother with their infant making the nature of our work challenging yet rewarding in equal measure. The service is committed to supporting staff with their continued professional development and training. We offer regular high quality supervision to ensure our staff are supported in their roles.

Main duties of the job

As a charge nurse on the mother and baby unit you would be working a combination of clinical day shifts and management days across the 7-day 24-hour period. Your responsibilities would include day to day support of both mothers and infants, efficient coordination of shifts to optimise the resources and staffing available to best meet the needs of the mothers and their infants. Efficient leadership and organisation is essential to the charge nurse role on the mother and baby unit.

We are looking for a highly motivated individual who would contribute to ongoing service development and improvement. You would be expected to be able to work well as part of a team, but also to be motivated and self-directed.

An interest in women's mental health and the particular needs of the infant where the primary care giver is suffering from a significant illness is essential.
