Job summary

Leeds Gender Identity Service is looking for an enthusiastic and experienced clinician to work in our supportive multidisciplinary team. We offer assessment and support to people aged 17 and above with Gender Incongruence from an out-patient setting.

The service brings together a wide range of experience into a highly specialised team which aims to address the needs of patients presenting with difficulties arising from gender dysphoria/incongruence. The team includes clinical psychology, nursing, speech and language therapy, psychiatry, endocrinology and general practitioners (GP) and gender outreach workers. We have regular trainees and students across the professional groups.

The Specialist Practitioner will provide a high level of clinical assessment and intervention across the gender pathway, including advanced / expert practice where appropriate directly to service users.

They will lead on the development and delivery of the satellite clinics / outreach work across the catchment area, developing relationships with local providers.

They will provide managerial and clinical supervision to other clinical staff and to the Gender Outreach Workers employed by the Trust, linking to the host partner organisations.

Main duties of the job

The successful candidate will work alongside other members of the multidisciplinary team e.g. psychiatrists, GPs, psychologists, nurses and speech and language therapists to provide a quality and supportive service to those people experiencing gender incongruence.

They will provide clinical intervention, holding a clinical caseload of service users within both the assessment stage and the care pathway utilising their specialist knowledge of the physical health, mental health and societal challenges service user may experience. They will utilise their experience and knowledge to support service users to move through the care pathway.

They will support the development of the gender outreach service, using their high-level communication skills to provide direction, support staff development and develop excellent working relationships with our stakeholders.

They will support and lead developments within the wider service and providing clinical and managerial supervision where required.

Although most of the hours will be in standard working times, there will be a requirement to support with out-of-hours meetings/events as and when required in conjunction with the Gender Outreach element of this role. There is also a requirement to travel to our partner organisations within Yorkshire and Lancashire when indicated.

Although the base for the post is Leeds, the service does currently offer a proportion of the appointments on-line.
