Job summary
We are looking to recruit a Band 5 Registered Mental Health Nurse who is compassionate, creative, and flexible in their approach to delivering individualised, person-centred care. The successful applicant will be committed to delivering high quality, evidence based, recovery interventions, with a good knowledge of the Care Programme Approach, Mental Health Act, Mental Capacity Act, person-centred care-planning and complex risk assessment/management.Ward 5, located at the Newsam Centre in Leeds, is a 17 bedded locked complex rehabilitation service that delivers rehabilitation and recovery to male service users with enduring mental illness. The service provides a holistic, psychologically-informed approach to support service users in developing their life skills, independence and hope for the future in a way that is meaningful to them, in the least restrictive way possible, with a focus on individual strengths.If successful, you will be encouraged and supported to develop your own specialist skills, knowledge and competence through participation, reflection, supervision and training, with a strong focus on service improvement and individual professional development planning. The service is currently undergoing exciting development and transformation, and we would particularly welcome applications from those who hold additional skills in recovery-focused psychological interventions, or who wish to acquire and develop these skills.
Main duties of the job
To establish a supportive and respectful relationship with service users.
To carry out tasks relating to an individual's care package under the direction of senior team members such as care coordinators.
To work on a 1:1 or in groups with service users facilitating therapeutic activities both ward based and in the community.
To participate in the observation and engagement of service users on a shift-by-shift basis, under the direction of qualified staff. This will include responding to and reporting issues relating to risk, particularly where there is an immediate need to evaluate a treatment plan/risk management plan.
To contribute to the maintenance of a therapeutic environment and to be proactive in developing positive links within the community that will enhance the service user experience
To raise awareness of recovery language with Trust staff by modelling positive strengths based, non-discriminatory, non- jargon, non-medicalised language in all areas of work.
Involvement in the process of effective risk management including assessment, planning, intervention and on-going monitoring of risk factors.
