Job summary

A rare opportunity has arisen for a band 6 senior clinician in the department of Liaison Psychiatry. This opportunity is perfect for an experienced registered mental health nurse who has an interest in this specialist, interesting and rewarding area.

Liaison Psychiatry is the sub-specialty of psychiatry concerned with the provision of clinical services, teaching and research in the general hospital setting. The service aims to provide access to a specialist multi-disciplinary team, for the care of patients in the general hospital setting who are presenting with both psychiatric or psychological and complex physical health needs.

The successful candidate will join the Liaison Psychiatry inreach teams for working age adults in providing a service to Leeds Teaching Hospitals Trust and making a positive difference to the care of people with mental health or psychological needs during their general hospital admission. You will work within well-established and supportive multidisciplinary teams, based at both the Becklin Centre covering St James' Hospital and Leeds General Infirmary covering both Leeds General Infirmary and Chapel Allerton Hospital. It is essential that the post holder can work flexibly within two teams who are aligned closely with each other and meet regularly for joint team meetings, teaching, and even festive celebrations.

Main duties of the job

The role involves providing biopsychosocial mental health assessment, risk assessment and short-term interventions/follow-up to patients admitted to a general hospital bed. You will be expected to develop robust clinical formulation and subsequent management plans that safely and effectively meets the needs of the patient and ward team.You will also provide advice and education to our general hospital colleagues around topics/issues surrounding mental health, risk management, and available community support. You will work collaboratively with our general hospital colleagues to meet the needs of patients with concurrent physical and mental health conditions. It is essential that applicants are confident working in a general hospital setting and can communicate and work effectively with a broad range of clinicians from different medical and multidisciplinary specialities.You will also be expected to deliver teaching to staff at the general hospital. This may be in a formal setting, or as informal situations arise.
