Job summary

Are you interested in being part of a bilingual (BSL/English) and bicultural York outreach team?

An opportunity has arisen for a Team Interpreter to work in a mental health setting, working with the Deaf CAMHS York team; working 1 day per week on a Tuesday (7.5 hours per week, there is some flexibility with start and end times) with the possibility of increasing to 15 hours per week/2 days in the future.

As the clinical team interpreter, you will be working within an established team of mental health practitioners working with deaf children and their families.

You will be involved in clinical work such as initial appointments, assessments and therapy sessions. You will have access to regular supervisions (managerial/clinical/professional/peer group), annual appraisal, relevant training and CPD/Away Days.

Main duties of the job

  • To interpret between users of English and BSL within a mental health setting
  • To provide a specialist level of interpreting skills
  • To be willing to travel to other sites if needed
  • Contribute to policies and procedures in relation to working with interpreters in the service.
  • Sight translation and interpretation of letters/reports and information into BSL and recording these onto video.
  • Experience / willingness to edit BSL videos and share with others as required e.g. YouTube/Zoom/WhatsApp.
  • To work with other professionals such as; deaf relay-intralinguals.
  • To observe all aspects of the NRCDP Code of Conduct (or equivalent) with particular regard to the maintenance of confidentiality (within the boundaries of reasonable organisational responsibility)
  • To engage in supervision effectively and continue developing their professional role.
