Mental Health Specialist Dietitian

Job summary

This is an exciting opportunity to be part of the dietetic provision in the Healthy Living Service based within an older persons community mental health service. People with mental health diagnosis are more prone to physical health conditions such as obesity, type 2 diabetes, cardiovascular disease, and malnutrition. Older people experience higher rates of malnutrition, which can lead to poorer health outcomes than the general population. Alongside these conditions, service users in the community mental health team (CMHT) may also present with disordered eating patterns, paranoid beliefs, strong anxieties around food, and self-neglect. The input from a Dietitian can have a positive impact on service users' physical health and wellbeing, and lead to an improvement in quality of life.

The Healthy Living Service is at the forefront of improving overall physical health for people who use our services. Our friendly and supportive Healthy Living Team consists of a Service Manager, Physiotherapists, Dietitians (Clinical Lead and bands 5 and 6), Speech and Language Therapist, Health Improvement Specialist, and Healthy Living Advisors. You will also be working within CMHTs which include additional MDT members such as Mental Health Nurses, Psychiatrists, Psychologists and Therapists, Occupational Therapists, and Social Workers.

Main duties of the job

We have a band 6 post available for a motivated, innovative and enthusiastic dietitian to work across Community Mental Health Teams in Leeds. This is a varied and exciting role which will provide a valuable development opportunity. The job role is diverse, and the successful candidate will gain experience in a range of physical health conditions whilst supporting service users in a mental health setting. The post is full time, based face to face in the community, with some mobile working required. This post provides opportunities to consolidate and progress your clinical skills by working with multidisciplinary teams to improve the physical and mental health of our service users.

The successful applicant will be part of a large dietetic team across LYPFT that promotes innovative practice and supports research and development activities across the service. The successful applicant will benefit from:

- Regular management, clinical and professional supervision

- Peer support, sharing of best practice and CPD opportunities provided by the trustwide Mental Health dietetic team and trustwide dietetic forum. As well as local MDT networks

- Opportunity to provide clinical supervision to more junior staff members

- Opportunities to facilitate nutritional training to members of the MDT

- Opportunity to shape the Dietetic service within the older persons CMHTs
