Main duties of the job
The post holder will be responsible for leading the strategic direction of the organisation's physical and infrastructure security management providing excellence in security management and infrastructure standards, including car parking management.
To be responsible for the effective management of all Physical / Infrastructure Security, Security Team, Security Control Room, Access Control, ID Badges, Car Parking Control across the Trust. Responsible for ensuring that these services are provided at best value and maximum quality through effective leadership to the Security team.
The post holder is responsible for both operational and strategic aspects of the service, ensuring that the environment is safe and secure for service users, staff, and visitors.
The post holder must have highly specialised knowledge across several operational functions (Namely: Security management, CCTV operations, the design and operation of access control, car parking, and permit systems) and have the ability to deal with a full range of complex and sensitive practices and procedures relating to the provision of security services.
The post holder must have the ability to interpret National standards, guidance and relevant legislation and ensure adherence within area of responsibility.
The post holder will provide expert advice to Trust colleagues on security and traffic management issues and maintain a close working relationship with external agencies and partners.

Communication/ Relationships
Work closely with the Estates and Facilities Senior Leadership Team and Clinical colleagues on security related matters
- Work closely with the Head of Health and Safety to find effective solutions to issues arising.

- The ability to work with enforcement authorities and multi-disciplinary directives, internal and external.
- The ability to communicate security advice, information, guidance, and support to stakeholders at all levels.

- Remain impartial and objective on security related matters.
- Participate in relevant Trust meetings and Committees, providing advice as appropriate and leading or supporting any initiatives resulting from the work of the Committee.
- Participate in the Trusts work relating to external accreditation processes as required by external stakeholders (e.g., S.I.A).
- Contribute to effective working relationships within wards, departments, divisions and beyond.
- To consult and work with staff side representatives on all relevant aspects of security management.
- Ensure high standard of written and verbal communications to all levels of the organisation including the ability to communicate complex and sensitive information.

Analysis, Problem Solving and Judgmental Skills
- Lead the security staff in the provision of a high-quality service by providing expert knowledge, guidance, direction, and advice on practical applications and measuring performance via agreed KPIs.
- Interpret professional guidelines and through practical application. Initiate, develop and lead on implementation of policies across the organisation to ensure enhanced security of all individuals and Trust property.
- Ensure work is carried out in a professional and ethical manner.
- Continually critically evaluate security systems to ensure security is not compromised given the constantly changing and developing environment.
- Act as the Trusts expert advisor in relation to security requirements for redevelopment/new build projects and be security project lead where requested.
- Ensure practical steps are taken to create the pro-security culture within the Trust for staff, service users, visitors, and contractors.
- Ensure appropriate security breaches are publicised appropriately in accordance with guidelines, policy, and procedures.
- Ensure security staff and external security providers are correctly licensed, enhanced DBS checks are carried out, and staff are trained in the application of their tasks and duties.
- Collect and collate evidence in line with judicial requirements for timely and appropriate case files for use by the Police, CPS and assist as required.
- Ensure security assignment Instructions and standing operating procedures are fit for purpose.
- Ensure control room and CCTV procedures are implemented, reviewed and security staff adhere to them.
- Interpret relevant national regulations and legislation and ensure the Trust remains compliant with these at all times.
Lead on Trust wide annual audits regarding staff compliance with all Security related policies liaising with relevant Heads of Service to address areas of poor performance.
Planning and Organisational Skill
- Act as the Trusts competent person for security, ensuring a pro-security culture is delivered including deterrence, prevention, detection, investigation, sanctions, and redress, with emphasis on tackling violence and aggression, protection of assets, security of drugs and hazardous materials, and service user safety e.g., mother and child unit etc.
- Ensure the organisations security related policies and procedures comply with NHS and national standards.
- Be proactive in raising the awareness of all Trust staff in security issues and liaising with training and development department to support appropriate Conflict Resolution Training.
- Actively participate in committee meetings and prepare and submit monthly security statistics highlighting trends.
- Provide appropriate advice on reducing the number of incidents delivering best practice through a programme of corrective and preventative actions.
- Lead and represent the Trust externally on Police initiatives.
- Develop and maintain close working relationships with all relevant parties including other Trusts, the NHS England, and all relevant internal and external stakeholders and partners.
- Lead, motivate and provide direction to site-based security staff where appropriate.
