Job summary
Leeds and York NHS Partnership foundation Trust are looking for enthusiastic and experienced Health Support Workers to join our team. We are currently recruiting to our Psychiatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) which is part of our adult inpatient service at the Newsam Centre.
Leeds Psychiatric Care Intensive Service (PICU) provides intensive and specialist care and treatment for adult service users with mental health needs, whose risks and behaviours cannot be managed on an open acute ward.
The successful candidates will work within a multi-disciplinary team providing high quality care and treatment of clients admitted to the PICU. We are looking for individuals who are;
- Able and willing to work flexibly, to meet the needs of the service
- Passionate about working with patients with complex mental health disorders.
A flexible approach is required as the post involved working flexibly over a 24 hr / 7 day period.
We will offer you an induction and a continuing written appraisal and the opportunity to complete the care certificate, supported by regular supervision.
You will be supported in your personal and professional development via clinical supervision, training and other Continuing Professional Development opportunities.
This post requires shift work as we provides support over a 24/7 basis. You must be able to work a variety of shifts including nightshifts, weekends and public holidays.
Main duties of the job
As a Health Support worker, you will be expected to work with patients, carers and Multi-Disciplinary Team to provide care to people with mental health needs.
The successful candidate will be positive and enthusiastic in your approach, calm and confident when dealing with the needs of the service users. You will have excellent communication skills, and will show that you have the ability to form and sustain therapeutic relationships with people with mental health needs.
You will be able to demonstrate genuine interest in mental health and be committed to involving service users in all aspects of their care. The role requires candidates to support the care, assessments, interventions and activities for service users.
