Job summary
An exciting opportunity has arisen for an assistant psychologist to work within the Dementia Inpatient Service and Older Peoples Mental Health Inpatient Service at the Mount in Leeds. There are 2 posts, with each post holder working onto 2 wards - either the mental health wards or the wards for people living with dementia. The post holders will work alongside an existing group of qualified psychological professionals already embedded into the ward team. The ward teams work as an MDT with Nurses, Doctors, MPACS, OTs, Psychological Professionals, Speech and Language therapists, Physiotherapists and Dieticians. The Mount works to a model of person centred and compassionate care to help people re-establish independence and recovery.
The successful post holder will need hands on experience of working with people in health care settings who experience mental health difficulties or have cognitive impairments. You need to be able to develop good report with older people and either have prior experience or enthusiasm for working with older people. The work will involve working alongside a range of staff, contributing to formulation, using outcome measures and taking on tasks that will be linked with service improvement initiatives. There is opportunity to get involved with delivery of training and the post holders will be supported to attend relevant CPD to the post.

Main duties of the job
The main duties of the job will be supporting be working on to two of the four wards for older people, either dementia or mental health to support the psychological interventions provided on the wards. The assistant will support the formulation work, speaking to families and spending time with service users. They will have opportunity to do some neuro assessment and be supporting collection of outcome measures for the teams. There will be pieces of service development work that will also require obtaining feedback from service users and families. The assistant will support services users in accessing interventions that increase their wellbeing and support recovery. The post holder will be supervised closely by psychological professionals.

- To attend and contribute to appropriate multi-disciplinary meetings.
- To assist in the development of a psychologically based framework of understanding and care to the benefit of all clients of the service, across all settings where care takes place.
- To assist in the implementation of agreed therapy or care programmes on a clinical supervised basis.
- To assist in the preparation of service user reports and letters under the supervision of a clinical psychologist
Older Peoples Services in the Trust have a further three assistants working into other parts of the pathway.
