Job summary
Two exciting job opportunities have arisen within LYPFT to expand the Systemic provision of the Leeds Family Therapy Service and also the CONNECT: West Yorkshire Adult Eating Disorder Service. The role in the Family Therapy Service will be to join the team of Family Therapists offering the SFT clinics to clients from a range of adult Mental Health services, alongside consultation, training, and supervision to multiple teams. Within the CONNECT WY Adult Eating service, the role will involve working therapeutically with couples and families during the inpatient stay of people using this service at the Newsam Centre. We hope to recruit two Family Therapists between the Leeds Family Therapy Service and the Connect inpatient team and envision that this work would involve one being a split post between the two services.
Main duties of the job
The Leeds Family Therapy Service (LFTS) offers team based therapeutic work in family therapy clinics, both in person and remotely. We also offer the training and supervision of more family inclusive practice across other teams including early network meetings for clients and their important others from a range of adult mental health services. The post-holders will lead their own therapeutic work, as well as work as a reflective team member in the team. Post-holders will be able to contribute to wider MDT working as appropriate, and support the learning of training professionals, such as trainee family therapists and medical psychotherapy trainees. The clinical work comes from a variety of services and as such we work with a range of complex, diverse and varied presentations and difficulties within families and/ or people's preferred support networks.

Job description
Job responsibilities
Applicants for the split post between LFTS and CONNECT: West Yorkshire Eating Disorder Service should have an interest in the field of adult eating difficulties, and some experience of working Systemically in an inpatient setting would be a significant advantage. The clinical work will focus on providing assessment, formulation and therapeutic interventions to individuals and their families during their inpatient stay and planning towards discharge back to the community. Close working with the multi-disciplinary team including other psychological therapists will be a key feature of this role, as well as supporting the team to think Systemically in a range of different forums. This work often involves working with clinical complexity, risk, and safeguarding issues. We envisage this role will also have the opportunity to regularly join the Family Therapy Service for team-based clinic work.
Applicants need to be able to tolerate high levels of distress and respond appropriately to complex, challenging, and emotionally sensitive information across a range of presenting difficulties. The people using our services can be vulnerable and marginalised for multiple reasons, so being able to provide family therapy and family interventions to distressed systems or where there are significant levels of conflict, is important. Post holders in each service will be required to work across a full range of ages and abilities, and to communicate with the different needs of families effectively. The roles involve being able to work as part of a family therapy team as well as working autonomously with families. Applicants will be expected to have experience of being clinically responsible for families who are engaged with family therapy and of managing their own caseload. Complexity and risk are an important part of the work across each role. Being able to identify child and adult safeguarding concerns, and respond to vulnerability within the context of a clinical family therapy setting, seeking appropriate support and supervision will be necessary. Applicants will need to be able to work creatively and collaboratively to develop Systemic working in contexts whose primary focus is individual care.
The Adult Eating inpatient role involve providing direct psychological interventions to indviduals and their families or support networks during their inpatient stay at the Newsam Centre as well as co-working with colleagues in the CONNECT community team. This involves advising on the management of complex presentations of mental health difficulties in the inpatient period, including the development of Systemically-informed formulations pertaining to the understanding of the relationship with food and eating breaking down and the impact on themselves and their meaningful others. The role involves close working with colleagues with multi-disciplinary backgrounds and providing input to various forums within the inpatient service (such as formulation meetings, care plan reviews, and multi-agency meetings).
Most importantly we are looking for enthusiastic and supportive team members who are interested in contributing to and working collaboratively towards the development of high quality family therapy and Systemic innovation within a range of LYPFT services.
