Job summary
This role will enable a ST3+ equivalent level doctor to gain experience as part of our General Surgery team at Chesterfield Royal Hospital. You will work under the direction and supervision of the consultants to deliver a high-quality service to patients, as well as providing support to junior colleagues and nursing staff as required.
The post has been specifically designed for training level medics who would like to gain more surgical experience and consolidate their knowledge, skills and confidence prior to moving on to the next stage of their career, and for those looking to gain wider experience of the NHS.
Some aspects of the role can be bespoke to the individual needs of the post-holder and tailored to take into account previous relevant experience, or achievement of requirements for application to specialty training.
There is a full shift rota in place & applicants must be able to participate in the full shift pattern.
There will be the opportunity to participate in teaching, audit, guideline development and service improvement projects.
We will also provide support to help you develop a portfolio in line with Royal College recommendations for those who want to evidence their role and training in this way.
A clinical supervisor will be allocated and will provide support for the duration of the placement.
Main duties of the job
Proactive patient management to achieve timely and high-quality assessment and care.Timely investigations and interventions managed in accordance with departmental protocols and guidelines.Attendance and support in theatre. Care of patients on the wards and in out-patient clinics. Referral of patients to other specialties and services as required.Provision of out of hours coverInvolvement in multi-disciplinary teams and meetings.Participation in teaching and training for junior doctors and medical students.Active involvement in audit and the development of departmental services and strategies.
