NGS Macmillan Unit Cancer Information and Support Lead (job share)

Job summary

  • To lead the implementation, further development and evaluation of the Macmillan Cancer Information and Support Service for Chesterfield Royal Hospital NHS Foundation Trust and across the community.
  • To develop and extend the scope and aims of the service, and work with the Macmillan Cancer Information volunteers, service users, clinicians, cancer teams and the voluntary sector to identify and meet the broader needs of people affected by cancer in terms of information and support.
  • To develop and manage the information centre, to support staff and volunteers based in the Chesterfield Royal Macmillan Cancer Unit and within the surrounding community and be responsible for the overall co-ordination and management of the Macmillan Cancer Information and Support Service and the staff and volunteers delivering the service.
  • To act as the key focal point to support the development of local information strategies.
  • To have a strategic focus locally and to ensure consistency and collaboration with local and regional information strategies for Derbyshire.
  • To influence the future of information and support within CRH and across the local communities.

Main duties of the job

The aim of the centre is to provide a facility and services to take forward the initiatives around Living with and Beyond Cancer as recommended 'living with and beyond cancer: Improving outcomes NCSI 2013; National Cancer Strategy 2015

To increase positive patient experience around unmet information needs and signposting and to evidence this within local and national patient experience surveys

To support all people affected by cancer ensuring information needs are met from diagnosis to survivorship or end of life care

Providing the highest quality information and support services in line with National Guidance to maximise wellbeing across all stages of the patient pathway

The service will strive to be compliant with any Macmillan or trust standards such as MQEM standards.

Enhanced quality of care; as information and support will be tailored based on outcome of assessment of need to ensure it is relevant and appropriate

Effective working relationships with existing statutory, private and voluntary services within the local health community will be developed to improve access and continuity of care

Links with voluntary sector support and other information services will be developed

Links with other cancer centres will be developed to ensure information is equitable across the region

Information will be updated to ensure it is in line with best practice and is evidence based
