Job summary

The Antenatal and Newborn (ANNB) Screening Failsafe Officer will be responsible for providing a specialist administrative (data collection and analysis) service that supports the antenatal and newborn screening team in the collation and entry of data for the National Antenatal and Newborn Screening Programs, that include:

o Sickle Cell and Thalassemia Screening (SCT)

o Screening for Infectious Diseases (IDPS)

o Down's syndrome, Edward's syndrome and Patau's syndrome screening

o Fetal Anomaly Screening (FASP)

o Newborn Infant Physical Examination (NIPE)

o Newborn Bloodspot Screening (NBBS)

Main duties of the job

The failsafe officer will develop and maintain systems and failsafe processes to ensure that all eligible mothers and babies are offered, and complete the relevant screening pathways and to timely identify any potential breaches and action these appropriately to prevent any missed screening opportunities. This will include accurate data collection for the screening databases, to analyse and run regular reports between different IT systems, to maintain the National Newborn Failsafe systems and to communicate with other professionals both internally and externally who are involved in the screening pathway. The failsafe officer will maintain and evolve mechanisms to support the collection of data for quarterly screening key performance indicators (KPI's), annual reports, the National Congenital Anomalies Register of Rare Diseases (NCARDRS), the Health Protection Agency and any other screening data requests. The failsafe officer will support the screening team to provide continuous failsafe cover for the screening service.
