NHS Locum Lower Consultant General and Colorectal Surgeon

Job summary

We are looking for an NHS Locum Consultant to join our friendly and well-established Surgical Specialties Division, to expand colorectal surgery capacity, augment the sub-specialty interests of other existing Consultants as well as augmentation of the on-call rota.

The successful candidate may provide regular colonoscopy lists. The trust owns the whole colorectal surgical pathway, the successful appointee will work with several other established Colorectal surgeons to deliver the sub-speciality service and cancer pathway.

There will also be an opportunity to work with consultant colleagues in the development of new, more effective, patient care pathways.

You will join an existing team of 17 consultants, six upper GI (2 fixed term and one to join in October 25) six Colorectal, four Breast and one Vascular, providing Surgical care in Chesterfield for patients from North Derbyshire and surrounding areas.

The post will include a commitment to the "Duty Surgeon" daytime general on-call rota along with night on call.

Candidates should be able to demonstrate requisite numbers of index logbook operations for emergency surgery and other procedures which may include anterior resections. This will allow the candidate to function as general and colorectal surgeon.

You will have the opportunity to discuss personal aspirations and any on-going training requirements which we would look to support and facilitate as part of your continuing professional development whilst in the role.

  • FRCS (Exit exam)
  • GMC registered with a licence to practice Entry on the GMC Specialist Register or training to a level commensurate with the award of CCST/HPT or eligibility for entry on the specialist register of the GMC in surgery within 6 months of CCT date
  • JAG accreditation in Colonoscopy by the time of appointment

Experience

Essential

  • Broad recent experience of emergency general and colorectal surgery, sufficient to function on the Consultant on-call rota with significant recent experience in Colonoscopy.
  • Broad clinical experience in Emergency General Surgery including acute laparoscopic cholecystectomy where necessary.

Desirable

  • Demonstrable experience of requisite numbers of index log book operations for emergency surgery and anterior resections (low), both laparoscopic and open

  • Clinical supervision experience/skills

Desirable

  • Motivation skills, leadership skills and flexibility.
