Job summary

We have an exciting opportunity to offer the post of 2 GP Assistants - Mental Health Support for a fixed term 12 months working for North Derbyshire PCN.

  • 1 x 37.5 hours per week - 12 month fixed term.
  • 1 x 18.75 hours per week - 12 month fixed term.

This post has a primary focus on supporting patients with mental health conditions. As a Mental Health and Wellbeing GP Assistant, you will play a vital role in assisting our Specialist Mental Health Practitioners and the wider Clinical team, monitoring patients' mental health, conducting necessary physical checks, and performing wellbeing check-in assessments for patients within the Chesterfield area.

Main duties of the job

The main responsibilities of the post include offering and booking appointments for patients, as well as providing appropriate signposting to other mental health services. While formal qualifications are not mandatory, relevant experience in managing mental health conditions and working in a healthcare environment is preferred.

There will be a necessity to undertake a GP Assistant Accredited programme dependent on current experience.

Physical Health Checks: Conducting basic physical health checks, recording vital signs, and assisting in identifying any potential health issues related to mental health conditions.

Wellbeing Assessments: Administering wellbeing assessments to patients, gauging their overall mental and emotional wellbeing and reporting findings to the Specialist Mental Health Practitioners.

  • GCSE in Maths and English at Grade C or above
  • NVQ level 2/3 in Health & Social Care

  • GP Assistant qualification

Experience

  • Prior experience in managing mental health conditions and working in a healthcare environment is preferred.

Desirable

  • Clinical skills experience such as: o Blood Pressure reading o Phlebotomy o Urine Dipping o Basic Observations
  • Understanding of mental health issues and various mental health conditions
  • Ability to work within your competence and know when to seek guidance from supervising GPs
