Job summary

The Ashover Team are a 32 bedded acute medical ward which specialises in care of the elderly and patients who live with Dementia & Parkinson's. The ward is aiming for 24-hour, 7-day cover for a Sister/Charge Nurse, so days and nights are expected to be worked.

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a band 6 Sister/Charge Nurse position within the team here at Chesterfield Royal Hospital on Ashover Ward on a fixed term, 12 month contract as maternity cover. You will need to demonstrate a keen interest in care of elderly including Dementia care, Parkinson's care and have experience of complex discharge planning. Ability to engage with our visitors, loved ones and families, and confidently liaise with our extended MDT is essential.

As a Sister/Charge Nurse you will need to be supportive and resilient in challenging situations. We have an inclusive team culture and value innovative and creative thinking. You will be responsible for leading the team in the absence of the Matron, supporting with staff management, audit and ward development projects. You will also support the Matron in reviewing complaints and governance issues, promoting a positive safety culture.

Please note that this is a fixed term contract for 12 months to provide cover for maternity.

Main duties of the job

  • The Sister/Charge Nurse will support the Matron with leading the ward team. In conjunction with the Matron, he/she will be responsible for promoting an environment conducive to individual and team development to ensure the delivery of high standards of patient care in line with clinical governance. He/she will also have the responsibility for the effective management of the ward.
