Job summary
We are recruiting for a Sister/Charge Nurse within our Emergency Department. We are a high performing department and in the top 10 Trusts in the country for Emergency Care. It is a very busy and exciting time to join us as the COVID pandemic has caused us to transform service delivery at pace as well as plans to see a new Urgent & Emergency Care Centre.
During the pandemic, nurses have been working hard and we know how gruelling it's been. So, while you're looking after us; we make sure we're looking after you. We have lots of support for your mental and physical wellbeing to support your work/life balance, including flexible working patterns to support you and the department. Our Proud to CARE values are embedded right across the Trust and your happiness at work is at the heart of our appraisal system.
Main duties of the job
As a skilled and valued member of our team, you will assist and lead in the provision of care to our patients and families. This includes assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of care for patients and following the agreed care pathway. Consolidation and maintenance of good unit management and organisational skills is key as well as supporting the provision of an environment conducive to the education of all staff. As an integral part of the team, you will be able to offer support, guidance and teaching to those members of the critical care team that are less experienced.
With our commitment to improvement and innovation, our Royal Academy of Improvement would love to hear your ideas and will work with you to support in getting these off the ground!
About us
This message is from Kaye Stevenson, ED Matron, who will be your line manager:
I am really proud to lead such a great team. I started as a newly qualified nurse in ED 15 years ago, I covered the Clinical Educator post for maternity leave. I then got a Sisters post in ED and applied for a temporary Matron post nearly 7 years ago - here I still am! I didn't have a great time during my first weeks and I remember well what it is like to be new to a department when the support isn't always available, this is why I put our staff at the heart of what I do, I am committed to supporting and developing staff alongside our educators and senior nursing team and have a fair, flexible approach. I look to the team for ideas on change and what matters the most to them, we have regular polls and try our best to get together for big parties (as pandemics allow!) There is no team quite like ours, it's a tough job but a second family and there is nowhere else I'd rather be.
