Job summary
The Division of Surgery at Chesterfield Royal Hospital NHS Foundation Trust are seeking to recruit an enthusiastic, dynamic, motivated and committed individual to join the Surgical Support Services Care Unit as Assistant Service Manager to support the provision of an excellent administrative service. The Surgical Support Services Care-Unit is made up of several services; Critical Care, Anaesthetics, Theatres, Endoscopy, Bowel Cancer Screening, Pain, Pre-Assessment and Admissions Planning. Supporting these services across the Care Unit, the post holder will be involved in all aspects of service operational / performance management and transformation, and a key member of the team deputising for the Service Manager across a range of duties. The post holder will also participate in the bronze rota gaining valuable operational skills across the wider division and hospital. Full consideration will be given to the development of the individual, and their career progression to a more senior post will be encouraged and supported.
This is a full time substantive post working 37.5 hours per week.

Main duties of the job
The successful candidate must ideally have significant staff management and operational experience and provide leadership and expert knowledge to performance managers, care unit co-ordinators, reception and booking teams and all other associated roles with the admin team. You should show the ability to work autonomously, be proactive and able to take initiative to solve problems. You will be expected to demonstrate excellent communication and teamworking skills, and proactively engage with various members of staff, both within the Division of Surgery and across the wider Trust.
You must be able to deal with confidential issues in a professional manner and be able to work under pressure. The post holder will have experience working in a similar role within a busy department /division in a healthcare setting with operational experience of managing services and staff.

Chesterfield Royal Hospital is located in Calow, Chesterfield, which is situated on a green field site on the edge of the Peak District National Park. It is home to the Crooked Spire and is also close to Sheffield, Derby and Nottingham, thus offering numerous choices for recreational activities and lifestyles.
Chesterfield Royal Hospital was officially opened by the queen in 1985 and since then it has continued to expand and modernise, currently holding approximately 550 beds. We provide acute in-patient and out-patient care for Chesterfield and the surrounding rural area of North Derbyshire, serving a population of approximately 350,000 people.
