Job summary

We are delighted to offer the opportunity for a highly motivated, enthusiastic and passionate GP Vasectomist, a 5.5 hour post, within our dedicated team at the Rotherham Sexual Health Service.

Main duties of the job

You will be responsible for the delivery of non-scalpel vasectomies, working within the integrated sexual health service provided by Rotherham Sexual Health Services, which incorporates several key elements, including contraception services, GU medicine, vasectomy, HIV treatment and care, cervical cytology and sub-contracted services delivered by GPs, pharmacies and the voluntary sector.

You will work in close collaboration with the other vasectomy surgeon to deliver outstanding patient-centred care that meets the needs of the local population and reduces health inequalities.

Your main duties and responsibilities will be to provide high quality, safe and effective clinical services for patients undergoing vasectomy and associated care.

Other duties:

To perform non-scalpel vasectomies under local anaesthesia and assist with the organisation of surgical lists.

To provide service users with pre-operative counselling; including information about the procedure, the consent process, contraception, and aftercare.

To provide support and information to clients during the procedure and immediately post-operatively and review post operative semen analysis results

2x Junior Clinical Fellows

2x CSRH SpRs

The Post

The post holder will be responsible for the delivery of non-scalpel vasectomies, working within the integrated sexual health service provided by The Rotherham NHS Foundation Trust, which incorporates several key elements including contraception services, GU medicine, vasectomy, HIV treatment and care, cervical cytology and subcontracted services delivered by GPs, pharmacies and the voluntary sector in Rotherham.

The post holder will be expected to work in partnership with all other members of the multidisciplinary team to deliver a clinically effective, safe, and high quality vasectomy service to the population served.

The post holder is expected to undertake service development review and evaluation to improve current practice.

All appointees are required to participate in all departmental activities, including audit, sharing the administrative responsibilities and contributing to the further development of the department and the Trust

General

1. In conjunction with vasectomy colleague, to provide the vasectomy service.

2. To provide cover for vasectomy colleague in respect of periods of leave.

3. In conjunction with vasectomy colleague, to take part in medical audit and research as appropriate.

4. In conjunction with vasectomy colleague, to ensure that the requirements of clinical governance are met.

5. To ensure that there are adequate arrangements for hospital staff involved in the care of your patients to be able to contact you when necessary.

Management & Service Development

6. In conjunction with the Divisional Director, Consultant & Senior colleagues, to play a full part in developing & implementing new ways of working in line with modernisation principles that are fit for the future.

7. In conjunction with vasectomy colleague, to take responsibility for the best use of departmental staffing and other resources to ensure the maximum efficiency of the department.

8. To observe the Trusts agreed policies and procedures, particularly in relation to managing staff and to follow the Trusts Standing Orders and Standing Financial Instructions. These policies and procedures have been drawn up in consultation with the profession on clinical matters.

Clinical Governance

9. In conjunction with vasectomy colleague, to ensure that the requirements of clinical governance are met.

Any Other Duties

10. Any other duties as deemed appropriate.
