We are seeking an ambitious and motivated Lead Midwife to join our maternity team at Rotherham.
Band 7 Lead Midwives are experienced clinical specialists with direct involvement in the delivery of antenatal care and possess expert knowledge within their defined area of midwifery practice. This is a pivotal leadership role, responsible for leading and managing change, driving service improvement initiatives, and inspiring midwives and maternity support staff to actively contribute to the ongoing development of maternity services.
The Lead Midwife will play a key role in leading service improvement, supporting the delivery of national and local priorities and improving outcomes and experiences for women, birthing people, and families. The role requires visible, approachable leadership and a strong commitment to equality, diversity and inclusion, ensuring services are equitable, respectful and responsive to the needs of all communities.
The post holder will foster a supportive, inclusive, and psychologically safe working environment, promoting staff wellbeing, learning and development. Through compassionate leadership, they will role-model NHS values and high professional standards while supporting teams to deliver safe and effective care.
Main duties of the job
The Lead Midwife will provide visible, professional leadership for Antenatal Outpatient Services, ensuring safe, effective, compassionate, and personalised care that meets national guidance and Trust standards.
The post holder will oversee service delivery across hospital and outpatient settings, promoting seamless, integrated care pathways and effective multidisciplinary working. They will lead service improvement, quality assurance, and innovation, supporting key national and local priorities, including maternity safety and public health initiatives.
The role includes leading and supporting midwives and maternity support staff, ensuring safe staffing, high standards of practice, and equitable workforce management.
The post holder will maintain advanced clinical practice, foster professional development, and work collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams and partner organisations to improve outcomes for women, birthing people, and families, while promoting equality, inclusion, and addressing health inequalities.
