The Rotherham Children's Public Health Nursing Service are looking to recruit an enthusiastic and motivated practitioner with initiative and drive. Our 0-19 service delivers high quality public health nursing, promotes healthy lifestyles and improves health inequalities to children, young people and their families in Rotherham. You will need to have excellent communication and organisational skills, be willing to facilitate and support change in service delivery, have the ability to work autonomously and as part of an integrated skill mix team. We offer flexible and agile working options

You will work within a skill mix team of Health Visitors, Staff Nurses and Community Nursery Nurses. You will have an important role in recognising and protecting vulnerable children and liaising with our partner agencies such as GPs, Schools, Social Care and the Police, providing seamless care to the families of Rotherham. The successful candidates will work to ensure the delivery of safe, effective and high-quality services to a caseload of babies, children, and their families, using research-based evidence to inform practice. The post will require the Nursery Nurse to travel between homes, schools, and family hubs within the Rotherham area

An induction will be provided for successful candidates to support their transition into the community and a competency package is available in order support you to deliver our service confidently and competently

Main duties of the job

  • To maintain effective communication with children, their families and professionals involved in client care ensuring individualised client centred approach.
  • To have an understanding and awareness of the nursery nurses responsibility in safeguarding vulnerable clients, including children, young people and adults.
  • To work in collaboration with parent/carers and other professionals including statutory and voluntary agencies.
  • To be responsible for the delivery of public health and universal and targeted interventions. This will be delegated by the Specialist Public Health Practitioner for a defined population and will be delivered in line with the National and Local guidelines and public health priorities.
  • To seek out and offer and teach health promotion and preventative opportunities to children, young people their families and promote positive health and behaviour management.
  • To work with children, young people and families within the home environment, or other identified community setting and will need to be able to travel to these locations independently.
