Job summary

We are pleased to offer the opportunity for a Consultant Orthodontist to join our friendly and supportive team of Orthodontists in Rotherham. This is a substantive replacement post. The department currently consists of 2 Consultants and is part of our well established Oral and Maxillofacial department.

The Orthodontic Department at Rotherham General Hospital is situated within the main outpatient area and is shared with Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery. It provides a full range of Orthodontic services to patients from the Rotherham area, including the treatment of orthognathic patients and patients with hypodontia and impacted teeth. Multidisciplinary clinics are held within the department with the Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons and a visiting Consultant Restorative Dentist from the Charles Clifford Dental Hospital in Sheffield.

Main duties of the job

The appointee will be encouraged to develop a special interest within the specialty of Orthodontics, which will complement the existing Consultants in the Department.

The appointee will be required to ensure that they keep their knowledge base and skills up to date, meeting the Continuing Education and Professional Development requirements of the General Dental Council and Royal College of Surgeons.

The Department

The Orthodontic Department at Rotherham General Hospital is situated within the main outpatient area and is shared with Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery. It provides a full range of Orthodontic services to patients from the Rotherham area, including the treatment of orthognathic patients and patients with hypodontia and impacted teeth. There are currently two modern well-equipped surgeries allocated to Orthodontics, with a third surgery shared with OMFS. The department has its own radiographic and Cone Beam CT facilities, all surgeries have computer terminals for viewing digital radiographs on the PAX system, and an intra-oral scanner is available. The department also uses Dolphin imaging software for dento-facial imaging.

The Orthodontics / OMFS laboratory is sited within the department, which includes a desktop scanner to enable digital storage of study models. All instruments are sterilised in the Central Sterilisation Unit of the hospital.

The Consultant has available office space, shared with consultant colleagues.
