Job summary

We are delighted to present this opportunity to join our growing emergency department in South Yorkshire seeing over 100,000 patients per year. We are a friendly District General Hospital and Trauma Unit caring for both adults and children. We are looking for a dynamic Doctor who has experience in a variety of Emergency Departments within the NHS.

It is also a 20 minute drive or 30-40 minute cycle from the bright city Lights of Sheffield (9 miles from the hospital to the city centre) where you will find many of your potential colleagues. Main duties of the job

The role is to work at Tier 4 level, including overnight as Clinician in Charge of the Emergency Department between 0000 and 0800 with a consultant on call. The rota is self-rostered 1 in 3.25 weekends. If successful candidates desire to work towards CESR with rotations to other specialties within the Trust this will be considered. We have 17 enthusiastic consultants keen to provide shop floor teaching and long term Educational Supervision as you continue to develop. Our team of clinicians includes an F2, GPSTR's, ACCS CT1s, EM STR's, CESR Doctors and a fantastic cohort of ENPs and ACPs. We also have a Consultant dedicated to Medical Education who provides bookable time for supervision and guidance on and off the shop floor to really take your skills to the next level.

At present the Urgent and Emergency Care Centre (UECC) at The Rotherham NHS Foundation Trust provides a 24-hour Emergency Service to a population in excess of 255,000.

The Emergency Department is located on the main hospital site, conveniently located near the Acute Surgical Unit, Acute Medical Unit, Theatres, Intensive Care, Medical Imaging Unit with Fracture Clinic and X-Ray Department adjacent.

The Department comprises the following facilities:

Large 6 bedded resuscitation room

A 4 bedded Rapid Initial Assessment area in Majors (RAT)

20 Adult Majors cubicles in two separately areas

Streaming and Triage Rooms along with rooms to carry out investigations from triage

Minor area with assessment & procedure cubicles, eye/ ENT room, 10 large rooms housing Primary Care, Minor Injuries and rooms to see mobile patients for Emergency Medicine

Separate Minor injuries area with separate waiting room serving both minor injuries and collocated primary care

Relatives room and a Bereavement bay

Self-contained Paediatric area with Paediatric assessment area, treatment room and five individual cubicles

Second storey office accommodation and large Seminar room, meeting room, and staff room

An area for Simulation teaching

The Specialty Doctor will play a key role in helping deliver the care to a high standard.

The successful applicant will obtain extensive training and experience in Emergency Medicine.

The successful applicant will gain competencies up to the level of the post applied for. They should be looking for their next challenge in Emergency Medicine. The post holder will be encouraged to develop and get involved with teaching and education opportunities, including simulation. We will encourage and aid with any specialist interests where the Service commitments allow.
