Job summary

We are looking for a motivated and proactive Specialty Doctor to join our modern, progressive Dermatology service at The Rotherham NHS Foundation Trust. This is an exciting opportunity to be part of a friendly, supportive team delivering high-quality care across a wide range of dermatological conditions.

Our service forms part of Care Group 1 (Medicine & UECC) and benefits from excellent facilities, strong multidisciplinary working, and established links with colleagues across South Yorkshire. The department sees around 6,000 new patients each year and undertakes a significant volume of day-case procedures, offering excellent exposure and development opportunities.

You will work alongside a Locum Consultant, an experienced Specialty Doctor, nursing team and wider MDT, contributing to outpatient clinics, minor surgery and service development. We are seeking a doctor who is committed to high clinical standards, collaborative working and continuous improvement.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will provide high-quality general dermatology care across outpatient and day-case settings, contributing to clinics, minor surgery and joint working with the wider MDT. You will independently assess, diagnose and manage patients with a broad range of dermatological conditions, escalating appropriately and seeking senior advice where required.

Key responsibilities include:

Delivering outpatient clinics and supporting day-case surgical lists

Maintaining high clinical standards and ensuring excellent patient experience

Supporting teaching and supervision of junior medical and nursing staff

Participating in clinical governance, audit, service development and CPD

Working collaboratively with colleagues across the Care Group and wider Trust

Contributing to pathway and service improvement projects as agreed

You will also participate in departmental meetings, contribute to service planning, and work flexibly to support safe and effective delivery of care.

The Dermatology department is part of the Care Group 1 which is committed to transforming the way health care is provided. The Care Group provides a number of unscheduled and scheduled services through integrated patient pathways which put the patient at the centre of their care, embracing innovation and new ideas. The department has historically enjoyed very good relations with local GP's, the Integrated Care Board (ICB) and the other South Yorkshire Dermatology Teams.

The Care Group is led by a Director of Clinical Services, General Manager and Head of Nursing. The Dermatology Department is operationally supported by an Operational and Performance Manager and a Matron, with no formally designated Clinical Lead in post.

The Dermatology Department is a modern, progressive department with excellent facilities and a highly skilled workforce including a nursing team and medical team comprising of a Locum consultant and an experienced Specialty Doctor. The service has developed links with Sheffield with further development of these networks planned.

The department see approximately 6000 new patients per year and performs 500-OP surgeries/procedures.

The post holder will be expected to provide clinical dermatology services within both inpatient and outpatient settings and work in partnership with the wider multidisciplinary team to maintain the highest standards of safety, quality and patient experience.

Provide general dermatology capacity

Maintain the highest clinical standards in the practice of Dermatology and minor surgery

Support the teaching and training of resident medical doctors and nursing staff

To actively participate in both departmental and Trust matters concerning clinical governance, audit and research

Ensure active participation in continuing professional development (CPD)

Contribute to departmental teaching, service development and improvement projects as agreed with senior departmental staff
