Care Support Worker - Operating Theatres

Job summary

Various full time and part time hours available - the role does not support night shifts.

A Theatre Healthcare Support Worker (HCSW) assists the surgical team by preparing theatres, supporting patients, managing equipment and supplies, and ensuring cleanliness and waste disposal, all while maintaining confidentiality and following strict policies for safe patient care before, during, and after surgery. They work as part of a multidisciplinary team, requiring good communication.

Main duties of the job

Patient Care: Escorting patients to theatres, transferring/positioning them, and supporting them.

Theatre Preparation & Maintenance: Setting up instruments and equipment, checking stock levels, restocking supplies, and cleaning/tidying areas post-surgery.

Surgical Support: Managing specimens, assisting with blood product collection/administration, and ensuring all safety procedures (like WHO checklists) are followed.

Team Collaboration: Working closely with surgeons, nurses, anaesthetists, and other staff; communicating effectively with families and patients.

Compliance: Adhering to Trust policies, mandatory training, and procedures for infection control, health & safety, and confidentiality
