Job summary

The Echocardiography Service at Rotherham is looking for a forward thinking individual to help shape the future of the department. The successful applicant will be expected to demonstrate an excellent level of clinical competence and knowledge to deliver the training needs of the Trust and support the Lead with the day to day running and development of specialist services. The post holder must be able to independently perform and report transthoracic echocardiograms to a very high standard in a wide range of clinical settings. Excellent communication and organisational skills are a necessity with the ability to work autonomously and act as a positive role model.RCCP/ AHCS/HCPC registration is expected and British Society of Echocardiography (BSE) Level 2 accreditation is essential with suitable experience at band 6 level.

Main duties of the job

To independently perform and report routine and advanced echocardiograms under the guidance of the Echocardiography Lead. To prioritise and organise own workload. To include:

  • Adult trans-thoracic echocardiography
  • Adult trans-oesophageal echocardiography (imaging)
  • Adult bubble and contrast echocardiography (according to role)
  • Adult stress echocardiography (according to role)
  • Triage of referrals against British Society of Echocardiography guidelines
To analyse and interpret complex data and report clinical findings which affect patient management and advise other medical staff of their importance as necessary

To contribute to the effective day-to-day running and coordination of the wider Cardiac Physiology service under the guidance of the Service Leads and to support other team members.

  • Professional specialist with proven expertise in adult echocardiography and wide knowledge of adult pathologies
  • Demonstrable experience in all required fields of adult echocardiography
  • Competent use of data bases and reporting systems
  • Policies, practices and procedures e.g. NHS national policies, standards, requirements and directions that relate to measuring and improving the quality and safety of patient care

Qualifications

  • Post graduate BSE Accreditation
  • RCCP/ AHCS/ HCPC Registration or equivalent
  • Basic Life Support or Immediate Life Support (ILS) Certification

Desirable

  • Completion of MSc Scientist Training Programme (STP) or equivalent (e.g. BSc in Clinical Physiology or HTEC MPPM with SCST Parts I and II)
  • Relevant MSc or equivalent postgraduate experience
