Job summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen to join our small, friendly team at Rotherham NHS Foundation Trust. We are seeking an enthusiastic, highly motivated and knowledgeable Cardiac Physiologist to work as a Cardiac Device Specialist. You will join a focussed team providing independent support across the full range of implantable devices from simple pacemakers to complex devices. The department is progressive and performs Physiologist-Led Device Pre-Assessment, Physiologist-Led ILR Implantation and a Scientist-Led Syncope Clinic. The service is evolving and requires flexible and forward thinking staff to shape our future.

This is a band 7 vacancy but applications are welcome from highly motivated individuals seeking a development opportunity within CRM (grading in keeping with experience). Applicants for a Band 6 development post must be practising in cardiac devices at Band 6 level, be on the HCPC register and have evidence of ongoing post graduate level training, such as completion of the British Heart Rhythm Society Exam. For the Band 7 role, full BHRS accreditation is mandatory along with wide reaching experience of complex devices at an independent practice level, leadership skills and at least 12months experience at Band 6 level. LBAP experience and/or Physiologist ILR-Implanter skills are desirable.

Main duties of the job

As a Cardiac Device Specialist within a dedicated, highly focused team you will:

  • Develop & maintain clinical expertise across the full range of cardiac devices (PPM, ILR, CRT, ICD, LBAP) delivering evidence based practice
  • Be responsible for a designated area within the department
  • Demonstrate leadership skills & initiative to assist in the day-to-day coordination of the Cardiac Physiology Service
  • Actively support the department to achieve IQIPS accreditation

Working hours are 8am to 6pm 4 days per week.

  • Completion of MSc Scientist Training Programme (STP) or equivalent
  • HCPC/RCCP/ AHCS Registration
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) and manual defibrillation certification.
  • Evidence of working towards Post graduate level Accreditation with British Heart Rhythm Society (BHRS) or IBHRE (full accreditation required for B7 post)

  • Competent in complex device implantation and follow-up (ICD/CRT) (documented independent practice expected for B7)
  • Competent using Remote Monitoring systems (documented independent practice expected for B7)
  • Experience in the day-to-day organisation and administration of a busy device service
  • Evidence of up-to-date CPD within Devices Specialism at post graduate level
