As the Environmental and Waste Management Lead, youll provide expert advice and strategic guidance across all Trust sites, supporting staff, patients, and service users to improve waste practices, reduce environmental impact, and manage carbon emissions.
With a Trust-wide remit, youll ensure sustainability is embedded in daily operations, from clinical areas to corporate teams. Youll lead on monitoring, analysing, and reporting the Trusts carbon footprint, using data to shape decision-making and deliver measurable, impactful projects.
You will have delegated budget responsibility and contribute to financial recovery plans by identifying efficiencies through sustainable practices. Managing a team of specialist staff, youll champion innovation, compliance, and continuous improvement.
This is a pivotal role in delivering the Trusts Green Plan. You'll lead by example, promoting low-carbon behaviours, supporting compliance, and inspiring change.

Main duties of the job
The role involves leading the development, implementation, and management of systems for monitoring and measuring waste and environmental performance across the Trust. The post holder will ensure that these systems deliver best value for money while maintaining high environmental standards and compliance with relevant legislation, sector codes of practice, and NHS guidance.
This is a Trust-wide operational role that requires close collaboration with Estates and Facilities teams, Care Group leads, internal stakeholders, and external organisations to support and deliver environmental initiatives. The post holder will play a key role in embedding sustainability into everyday operations and supporting the Trusts efforts to meet its environmental responsibilities.
They will assist in implementing and maintaining policies, procedures, and strategies that meet or exceed national, local, and Trust-wide environmental targets. A key focus of the role is supporting the delivery of the Trusts Green Plan, with particular attention to waste management and the achievement of NHS Net Zero carbon targets. The successful candidate will provide expert guidance and operational support across a range of healthcare services, contributing to the Trusts commitment to sustainability and environmental excellence.
