School Screening Vision Assessor

Job summary
We are recruiting to a part time, term time only School Vision Screening post. The post will be 22 hours worked over 5 days, Monday Friday, term time only, with some additional flexibility in hours.
The successful applicant will be part of a small team responsible for ensuring accurate vision testing and referrals as necessary in to the Hospital Eye Services (HES) for children in the Rotherham area. Applicants will need to be enthusiastic and conscientious, with the ability to work as part of a team as well as responsible for their own practice in solo vision testing.
The role involves the screening of all school children with parental consent and initiating referrals for children who do not pass the required level. This position has a high level of responsibility and requires attention to detail.
Knowledge of vision testing or working within a school setting is desirable but not essential as full training will be given. Interviews will take place on Wednesday 6th August. Please contact Caroline Pollard (01709) 423977 for informal enquiries.
Main duties of the job
The successful candidate will be required to
- Contact schools and book in screening time
- Ensure consent forms are sent out to the schools and there are a sufficient number completed to ensure a productive school visit
- Be responsible for accurate vision testing and recording, on an ability determined vision test
- Initiate referrals for children who do not meet the required standards
- Ensure a feedback letter is left for all parents/guardians of tested children
- Ensure all administrative duties around these processes are undertaken with accuracy and care
- Keep accurate and contemporaneous records of all schools booked, children screened and their screening outcomes
- Work with the other vision screener to ensure a seamless service
- Ensure all testing equipment is present and in good order
- Escalate any issues to the school screening orthoptist
