Job summary
The
junior clinical fellow in medicine role at The Rotherham NHS Foundation Trust
is designed to develop junior doctors in medicine and take them in a number of
years through their membership examinations to completion of the alternative
certificate pathway to enable application to higher specialty training roles.
The
posts are in various medical specialties and rotate 2 or 3 times a year to enable
broad range of experiences. Its for 40 hours per week Monday to Friday
starting at either 8 or 9 am each day for 8 hour shifts (timing depends on
location of work). It includes weekend post-take ward rounds at no more than 1
in 5 weekends.
Significant
time is spent on the acute medical unit developing management skills of acute
unselected take patients.
To
enable development of both clinical and non-clinical skills significant study
leave time is available and support is provided, if desired, for involvement in
research, quality improvement or educational work.
Main duties of the job
The post is 40 hours per week, Monday to
Friday, either 08:00 to 17:00 or 09:00 to 17:00 (with slight flexibility available to
this timing if adjustment is needed e.g. 09:30 to 17:30) depending upon specialty.
The post is intended as a
training/development post with the potential for extension at the end into
further years. It is envisaged that a
junior doctor coming into this post out of Foundation Year 2 training will, if
continuing for 3 or 4 years be able to obtain full membership of the Royal
College of Physicians and have the experience for completion of an alternative
certificate pathway into higher specialty training (the equivalent of IM Stage
1 training).

and Endocrine, Gastroenterology, Haematology, Healthcare of the Older Person,

The Post
The post is

are also float posts where the junior doctor moves to work in the areas with
most need. To provide continuity these
movements will be for a week at a time into any one specialty.
If pursuing
an alternative certificate, in year two and three of the post (and following
successful completion of MRCP Part 1), five weeks a year access to a critical
care environment will be provided with time taken from study leave allowance
for this. The purpose of this is to
fulfil the alternative certificate requirements and so doing this is not
mandatory.

and supervision of more junior doctors or students with the management of
patients (where relevant, depending on experience).
Strengthening
the delivery of a high quality service across the hospital and community.
Developing
further links between these service areas and support services across the Trust

innovative practices in clinical patient management, focusing on high quality
patient centred care.
Participate
in teaching and training.
Quality
assurance of the service and individual practice.
Work
collaboratively with consultants, doctors in training, nursing and allied
health professional teams to help shape the future of their specialities.
We
will also support you to attend relevant congresses/conferences and obtain
journal, poster or guideline publication. Where it will be helpful we will facilitate
your attendance at relevant training courses.
On-call/Full Shift duties
The
