Job summary
Due to the amount of applications we currently have for this advert to ensure you progress to interview you will need to have either: Worked in the NHS for 6 months and/or achieved MRCP Part 1.
The junior clinical fellow in medicine role at The Rotherham NHS Foundation Trust is designed to develop junior doctors in medicine and take them in a number of years through their membership examinations to completion of the alternative certificate pathway to enable application to higher specialty training roles.
The posts are in various medical specialties and rotate 2 or 3 times a year to enable broad range of experiences. Its for 40 hours per week Monday to Friday starting at either 8 or 9 am each day for 8 hour shifts (timing depends on location of work).
Significant time is spent on the acute medical unit developing management skills of acute unselected take patients.
To enable development of both clinical and non-clinical skills significant study leave time is provided with 4 rostered half-days per month in first year and possibility or replacing this with a 5 week block in a critical care environment in later years. Support is provided, if desired, for involvement in research, quality improvement or educational work.
Main duties of the job
The post is 40 hours per week, Monday to Friday, either 0800-1700 or 0900-1700 (with slight flexibility available to this timing if adjustment is needed e.g. 0930-1730) depending upon specialty.
The post is intended as a training/development post with the potential for extension at the end into further years. It is envisaged that a junior doctor coming into this post out of Foundation Year 2 training will, if continuing for 3 or 4 years be able to obtain full membership of the Royal College of Physicians and have the experience for completion of an alternative certificate pathway into higher specialty training (the equivalent of IM Stage 1 training).
