Childrens ward and Childrens Assessment Unit are a joint area with 22 beds. We care for childrens and young people age 0-17 who are acutely unwell including medical, surgical, mental health and safeguarding. We have a 2 bedded HDU unit within the Childrens assessment unit where we care for children requiring enhanced care. The ward is staffed by friendly, welcoming team of nurses.
Main duties of the job
Main Duties:
Meeting and Greeting patients and visitors when they arrive on the ward.
Helping patients complete Friends and Family feedback forms.
Taking samples to the labs when requested by staff.
Taking and collecting prescriptions to the pharmacy.
Assisting with stock top up.
Assisting ward clerks with filing and answering the telephone/door system
Sitting and talking to patients when appropriate.
Providing support at mealtimes by giving out meals, helping patients cut up food, clearing meal trays
Making and providing refreshments for patients and families
Photocopy, laminate and support with putting upward displays
Escort families to other departments within the hospital i.e. x-ray
Assist with tidying up the playrooms and cleaning the toys
Apply fresh bed linen to clean beds
Complete intentional rounds at specific times to check families have what they need
Assist nursery nurses with planning and delivering activities
Ensuring families are orientated to the ward
Supporting with the general cleanliness and tidiness of the area
Skills and Experience:
Excellent communication skills
Confidence to engage with families
Friendly
Experience with children would be desirable
Times:
Monday Sunday AM - PM and Evening
