We have an exciting opportunity to join our enthusiastic Smoking in Pregnancy Team as a Band 6 Smoking Cessation Midwife. The post holder will support the Lead Midwife in coordinating the smoke free pregnancy agenda, identifying areas for improvement and leading on work streams including implementation of improvement plans, service pathways and staff training and development. Rotherham Maternity Services are part of the integrated Family Health Service, which provides healthcare for the women and pregnant people, and their families, in both the hospital and the community setting. Due to the nature of the role it is essential that applicants are able to travel independently across the county and have access to a suitable vehicle for business purposes. If necessary, adjustments can be considered in accordance with the Equality Act 2010.
Main duties of the job
To work to support the safe delivery of the Smoking in Pregnancy programme, including providing access to Nicotine Replacement Therapy and other stop smoking medications and aids. To perform a risk vs benefits assessment of clients individual case, monitoring and adjusting medication as appropriate and provide behavioural change support.A high level of communication and interpersonal skills are required in order to empower pregnant women and people, their partners and family during their maternity journey.The postholder will manage their own caseload and guide the Smoking in Pregnancy Advisors in planning and delivering expert clinical advice and support for women and people, their partners and family during their maternity journey.The Smoking Cessation Midwife will participate in the education and training of staff and multi-disciplinary team, will participate in audit, data collection and submission. They will assist in developing and maintaining policies, presenting audits and report writing. They will work closely with members of the multidisciplinary team, Health Visitors, General Practitioners, other allied health professionals and specialities.
