Job summary
We are pleased to announce that funding has become available for a number of Registered Nurses to undertake the Sheffield Hallam Universitys shortened (2 year) Midwifery Training. This is an accelerated route into midwifery, whilst being paid at a mid-point band 5. Midwifery is a rapidly evolving and dynamic career pathway where Midwives are arguably some of the most important people in womens health care. A career in this area could see you supporting countless mothers and their children from early pregnancy into the postnatal period in a number of settings. You must hold a current registration as an adult nurse with the NMC, and 12 months experience.

Main duties of the job
Theory will be a blend of face-to-face teaching at SHU, project-based working, case studies, independent study and online resources.
There are 9 on-campus weeks across the 2 years of the course, where we will be covering induction aspects, clinical skills development and in-person assessments.
50% of the course is spent on clinical placement in your employing NHS Trust. NHS England funding is available to cover tuition fees and salary up to AfC mid-point band 5 (depending on experience), for nurses currently employed in an NHS Trust.
It will allow the successful candidates to develop their knowledge and skills in the care of women and their babies in the antenatal, Intrapartum, and postnatal periods, as well as in the care of the newborn baby and how to practice safely and effectively as an autonomous practitioner.
It will encourage critical thinking and teach the successful candidates how to apply an evidence-based approach to support decision-making in clinical practice.
Clinical placements will encompass community, antenatal and post-natal experiences, and labour ward/birth centres within the Trust (Rotherham,Barnsley, Doncaster&Bassetlaw and Sheffield Jessop Wing).
Opportunities will be available to work with specialist midwives and midwifery managers to gain a holistic view of the maternity continuum.
The clinical placements will allow successful candidates to apply evidence-based theory into clinical practice to achieve the required proficiencies for registration as a midwife.
