Job summary

We are seeking an enthusiastic, dynamic Registered Nurse with a compassionate, caring nature who will focus on delivering high quality nursing care.

The Dermatology Department at The Rotherham Foundation Trust is a dedicated outpatient unit comprising of Doctors, a Nurse Consultant, Specialist Nurses, Staff Nurses, Band 3 HCAs and the clerical /secretarial team. We are an innovative department, constantly evolving our service to meet the demands of our population and the current climate.

The unit consists of consulting suites, skin surgery theatres, laser and treatment rooms and phototherapy units. Our clinics are both medic and nurse led. The medical staff run clinics in general Dermatology, Skin Surgery and Cranio-facial Botox for hyperhidrosis. We offer nurse led clinics in drug monitoring, skin surgery, axillary Botox, phototherapy, laser, general treatments, cosmetic camouflage and health education. Our services run Monday to Saturday including bank holidays, with evening clinics throughout the week. As a band 5 Staff Nurse you will be working across all of the clinics, either assisting the clinician or working independently as highlighted below. Applicants should be highly motivated, demonstrate their ability to work under pressure and be able to manage their time effectively.

Main duties of the job

This will involve working closely with the Consultants and other members of the multidisciplinary team, and providing expert advice, information and education to people with skin conditions. You will work alongside both the medical and nursing staff in the general and specialist Dermatology clinics, assisting as necessary and providing health education to the patients both verbally and via treatment demonstrations as necessary.

You will also assist in the various skin surgery sessions, supporting the patients in theatre and providing aftercare. For daycase surgery, you will be the scrub nurse, assisting the surgeon with the procedure.

You will work independently in the nurse-led phototherapy clinics after completing an in-house training programme, and will be expected to attend external training programmes as the opportunity arises. You will also work independently in the Doppler, health education and cosmetic camouflage clinics.

You must be able to work autonomously, organise your workload effectively and adapt to, as well as drive change at local level. Excellent communication skills are essential as you will be dealing with patients on a one to one basis, as well as liaising with team members.
