Clinical Teaching Fellow in Dermatology

Job summary

The post would be ideal for either a post IMT3-ST4 or a mid-scheme ST5-6, an experienced SHO or Specialist Registrar, who has a clinical background involving Dermatology. The successful applicant would also have an interest in medical education and educational research.

This is a post based in Dermatology at Nottingham University Hospitals Trust (NUH), Queen's Medical Centre Campus (QMC). It will offer a unique combination of teaching and clinical opportunities within QMC. It will involve taking a lead role in the organisation, development and delivery of clinical teaching and tutorials to medical students based at NUH, both within the clinical workplace and in a teaching/skills environment.

Personal teaching skills will be developed and improved, along with understanding and experience of experiential learning, competency assessment and evaluation tools. There will also be the opportunity to develop skills and experience in non-technical areas such as communication and de/briefing working alongside experienced faculty members UMED.

The post holder can undertake the taught M.Med.Sci (Clin.Ed) Course as a part time postgraduate student, which constitutes approximately 20 days contact time at the University of Nottingham or at another Higher Education Institution as applicable, plus reading and writing up of assignments and dissertation. 50% of the costs of the M Med Sci will need to be met by the successful applicant and 50% by the Trust for all UK applicants.

Main duties of the job

The following is a guide of the weekly clinical job plan:

Adult general dermatology and two week wait skin cancer clinics

Skin biopsy/surgery session

Acute dermatology experience (9am-5pm)

Admin session

Time to attend skin cancer multidisciplinary team (MDT) meeting and clinical educational sessions
