Assistant Psychologist - Neuropsychology

Job summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a 1.0 FTE Band 5 Assistant Psychologist in the Neuropsychology Service at NUH due to the existing postholders career progression.

We are looking for a motivated and enthusiastic person who has a strong interest in the care and wellbeing of adults with neurological conditions and injuries. The post holder will undertake clinical neuropsychology assessments (adults) under the supervision of the clinical neuropsychologist. The post was specifically developed as an initiative to improve the waiting times for people referred to the service.

Main duties of the job

The successful applicant will be welcomed to the Department of Clinical Psychology & Neuropsychology within the trust. Currently there are over 60 clinical psychologists, and assistant and trainee clinical psychologists working across a number of medical inpatient and outpatient services within the Trust including: Adult and Paediatric Neurology, Neurosurgery, and Neurorehabilitation Services, Stroke, NPH, Oncology, Paediatrics, Burns, Cystic Fibrosis, Cleft Lip and Palate, Major Trauma, Intensive Care, Renal and Haematology. We have excellent links with the University of Nottingham and regional Clinical Psychology Doctorate Courses.

Training & Qualifications

Essential

  • Degree in Psychology (upper second class or above).
  • Eligible for Graduate Membership of the British Psychological Society

Desirable

  • Training in topics related to mental health, psychological difficulties or psychological therapies

Experience

Essential

  • Experience of working as an Assistant Psychologist (or similar) in direct clinical contact with people with psychological difficulties
  • Experience of working with patients with neurological illness and injury
  • Experience of neuropsychology assessments

Desirable

  • Experience of working with patients with physical health problems and/or in an acute NHS trust
  • Experience of working with both adults and children
  • Experience of assessing adults with multiple disabilities
  • Familiarity with bio-psycho-social models of disability and care
