Job summary
The preterm birth lead midwife will support the preterm birth work and compliance with element 5 of Saving Babies Lives Care Bundle v3 including the core competencies within this, and Mat Neo SIP preterm optimisation and stabilisation work stream across the Nottingham and Nottinghamshire maternity system.
The preterm birth lead midwife will have oversight and support the development of processes. They will work in collaboration with existing leads for SBLCB, NHSR, preterm birth and public health along with colleagues from clinical effectiveness, neonatal teams, and governance teams. They will provide coordination of reporting and monitoring of preterm birth prevention and management in relation to SBLCB v3, Mat Neo SIP and NHSR MIS.
They will provide support to the preterm prevention clinics providing clinical support to clinicians working in the clinic, including telephone consultations, and providing Midwifery care for the women in the clinics.
They will work to support equity across the maternity system and ensure that cross service maternity care will be as seamless as possible for women at risk of preterm birth. This will include working to ensure the regional IUT guidance is fully embedded and monitored.
Main duties of the job
The focus of the preterm birth lead midwife will be to lead the development of quality improvements projects needed within the preterm birth portfolio, provide oversight of the outcomes of the preterm birth prevention clinic including audits, work with the MDT within the preterm birth prevention clinic, provide training to embed recognised strategies to optimise outcomes for preterm babies, support the preterm birth prevention clinics, improve communication and care for women at risk of preterm birth and following preterm birth (including immediate stabilisation strategies), and undertake national and local audit including SBLCB v3, Mat Neo SIP, and NHSR MIS.
Provide patient care within the preterm birth service, adhering to both Trust Guidelines and national standards.
Undertake monitoring and evaluation to ensure that the preterm birth service is offered and delivered appropriately to the cohort of patients who are at risk of preterm birth.
Take responsibility for key performance Indicators and report writing to demonstrate compliance with a variety of care quality indicators.
