Job summary

  • To lead specialist nursing, maintaining and developing a quality service for patients undergoing living kidney donation and transplantation.

  • To take overall responsibility for the care of a case load of potential living kidney donors, those undergoing donation and the renal patients receiving live donation.

  • Provide expert advice and specialist support and education/training to staff, patients and their families throughout the live donor pathway

Training & Qualifications

Essential

  • Current 1st level NMC registration
  • Evidence of study at level 3 (first degree)

Desirable

  • Masters level degree
  • Annotation with NMC as Independent / Supplementary Nurse / Midwife Prescriber

Experience

Essential

  • At least 5 years post-registration renal nursing experience
  • Experience of working on a renal transplant ward

Desirable

  • Experience of autonomous history taking, diagnosis, referral and discharge
  • Experience of working as a clinical nurse specialist

Communication & Relationship Skills

Essential

  • Evidence of conveying complex/unwelcome news to patients/clients
  • Able to convey sensitive information in an empathic manner to staff and patients/clients

Analytical & Judgement Skills

Essential

  • Able to independently assess and diagnose common conditions within remit of professional practice
