Heart Service Patient Escort

Job summary

The post holder will be required to work as part of a team providing high standards of portering in the Heart Services department based at the Trent Cardiac Centre, following appropriate procedures.

The post holder will be required to handle equipment responsibly and within health and safety guidelines.

The post holder will be responsible for maintaining patient, staff and public safety whilst undertaking their duties. The post holder is required to work on their own or as part of a team to deliver services as directed by policies and procedures.

The post holder will need to have a friendly and helpful manner and have a sensitive approach when dealing with patients and their families.

Main duties of the job

Transfer of patients either in wheelchairs, on a bed/trolley to and from wards and departments within the required time

Assist with of the moving and handling of patients when requested

Collection and delivery of pharmacy stores to wards and departments

Collection of urgent specimens from wards and departments to the path lab

Deliver and exchange medical gas cylinders in wards and departments

Assist with the transportation of patients relatives if and when required

Ensure that patient movement requests are actioned promptly

Observe a duty of care in performing all tasks, safeguarding oneself, patients, staff, visitors and others

Inform the Team Leaders/Management team of any untoward incident

Following appropriate training, assist colleagues based in other areas of the Trust with Patient Movement services

Ensure that all patient escort work related areas are maintained to agreed levels of cleanliness and tidiness

To report to their immediate supervisor/line manager any issue which may affect acceptable levels of cleanliness and tidiness e.g., faulty or broken equipment/accessories

Provide a transportation service throughout the Trust of bloods, samples, fluids, medication, notes, x-rays, and other such items directly related to patient care

Provide an emergency collection service of blood samples in the event of pneumatic tube failure.
