Decontamination Clinical Support Trainer

Job summary

The post holder will lead on decontamination training across Endoscopy City, QMC, and Treatment Centre for decontamination staff groups and any other clinical staff who are required to be trained in decontamination as part of their role. They will also lead on general training for decontamination staff, including mandatory training and medical devices, to ensure the Trust and Division meet targets relating to learning and development. They will work as part of the Endoscopy Clinical Education team and the Decontamination team to ensure that all decontamination training standards are met and all staff are performing to the required health and safety standards.

They will work across all three endoscopy sites. Flexible working will be considered on appointment. The Decontamination CST will spend a minimum of 50% of their time working clinically to train and support staff, this will include delivering practical training and performing competency assessments.

Main duties of the job

  • Lead on decontamination training across all three sites.
  • Monitor training levels and and ensure all decontamination staff have their training completed in a timely fashion.
  • Support staff in training an development in decontamination.
  • Keep records of training for all decontamination staff and other clinical staff who require decontamination training as part of their role.

Job responsibilities

Monitor mandatory training and medical devices levels for the decontamination team and ensure training is completed in a timely fashion, assisting staff if necessary.

Sign off decontamination competencies on JETS workforce and assist staff in completing JETS workforce portfolio include DOPS. Ensure staff complete JETS workforce e learning and portfolio in a timely fashion.

Keep an up-to-date record of specialist decontamination training on the training spreadsheet for all three sites.

Organize specialist decontamination training by external providers as necessary, for example: spill kit training, spill kit hood training, Chemdaq training, Cantel training.

Plan and write inductions for new staff members, allocating mentors for them to work with.

Work with new starters during their induction period weekly where possible to monitor their progress and support.

Perform catch ups with new starters, ensuring they are meeting expectations, and adjusting training/plans where necessary to ensure they meet the required standards.

Be an authorised trainer for decontamination medical devices and provide medical devices training and sign off for all decontamination medical devices.

Sign off other decontamination supervisors off as Authorised Trainers as appropriate.

Assist clinical educators in coordinating and carrying out decontamination training (JETS competencies and medical devices) for RNs and HCAs assisting in the on-call service and ensuring their yearly updates are completed.

Attend the monthly endoscopy staff induction and provide decontamination training session.

Work closely with the decontamination supervisors and Decontamination Lead, escalating any concerns with training or performance to the Decontamination Lead and ward managers.

Act as a point of expertise in the decontamination team, ensuring all supervisors and decontamination staff are confident and aware of their roles and responsibilities in the decontamination team.

Write SMART action plans along with the ward managers/decon lead for any staff not meeting expectations.

It is expected that the decontamination CST will spend at least one day a week at each site, they are expected to manage their own workload and flex which site they work at depending on the needs of the service.

A minimum of 50% of their time should be spent working clinically, working with new starters/training and signing off competencies/training staff.
