Senior Assistant Technical Officer - Clinical Trials and Production

Job summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an ambitious candidate to join the Pharmacy team in the Sterile Production Unit and Clinical trials department at Queens Medical Centre at Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust (NUH). You will be joining a team of hardworking and dedicated professionals who formulate, prepare and dispense medicines for our most vulnerable patients and external customers, whilst also helping to facilitate and conduct clinical trials at NUH.

Main duties of the job

In addition to the summary below you need to familiarise yourself with the full job description and person specification. This interesting and varied role will require you to work in both the sterile production unit and clinical trials department. The work will be varied and challenging, working to tight deadlines to achieve targets and respond to patient and customer needs. You should be able work under pressure, prioritise and organise workloads and be able to work alone or as part of a bigger team. We are looking for confident self-motivated individuals with excellent IT, communication, problem solving and decision making skills. You will need to be able to work unsupervised in all aspects of sterile batch production, specialist aseptic dispensing activities, clinical trial material preparation, CIVAS activities, cytotoxic reconstitution services and Neonatal, Paediatric and Adult PN, working in a cleanroom environment to manufacture complex medicines in isolators and laminar air flow cabinets. You will also need to be able to accurately label, dispense and manage clinical trial drugs whilst working in the trial dispensary whilst effectively communicating to service users and the multidisciplinary team.

Training & Qualifications

Essential

  • Possession of, or willing to undertake, or complete NVQ level 2 Pharmacy Services (or equivalent) including relevant modules for this post.
  • GCSE (or equivalent) grade 4 (grade C) or above in Maths and English Language
  • To be able to learn new skills and knowledge and to implement these into standard practice to maintain competencies through validation

Desirable

  • GCSE (or equivalent) grade 4 (grade C) in Science subjects, Biology or Chemistry
