The Emergency Department at Nottingham University Hospitals' NHS Trust is excited to be able to offer opportunities for motivated doctors to join our friendly Emergency Medicine team from 6th August 2025 for 12 months.

You will have the opportunity to work in a forward thinking, dynamic department which is committed to the Trust's ambition of developing staff and delivering outstanding healthcare outcomes for patients. T

Depending on your experience and interview, you may be offered a Junior Fellow role on our Tier 3 rota (CT3 level) which would only be considered if you hold part of MRCEM OR Senior Fellow at Tier 4 level, which is our registrar rota if you have the required amount of experience in ED plus MRCEM along with taking into consideration your interview. There will be opportunities for T3 clinicians to progress to the Tier 4 rota, Senior Fellow role, if full MRCEM is obtained and progression reviews completed.

Please note, you must be available to start on 6th August to align with our Resident doctor rotation which includes an induction to the Trust and a departmental induction on 7th August which will be mandatory.

Main duties of the job

Working in our ED encompasses many management skills such as managing the shop floor, keeping to the four hour target and constant reprioritisation of tasks.

You will be supported to work through competencies to develop portfolio evidence to meet your set objectives and will work under the clinical direction of EM Consultants who are present in the department 24/7. All Fellows will have a monthly teaching day along with educational development time reflected on your rota. You will be allocated an Educational and Clinical supervisor

  • Advanced Life Support (ALS) qualification

For a Senior post

  • MRCEM exam (full)
  • To have at least two years experience in ED in the NHS at CT3 level or higher

These are service posts so do not have educational approval, but you will be provided with excellent training and educational opportunities, tailored to meet your individual needs.

We expect that you will keep yourself up to date with current knowledge and practice, attend clinical meetings within the department and to participate in audit and in service training of other professionals.

Clinical Fellows in the Emergency Department can expect to:

  • Build on previous experience and develop increased expertise in the identification, assessment and management of sick patients
  • Gain experience and familiarity in identifying and managing a wide variety of medical conditions, with appropriated decision making around need for admission and discharge +/- primary care/specialty follow up
  • Gain experience and familiarity in managing poly-trauma patients and the concept of silver trauma
  • Have opportunities to acquire additional skills such as fascia iliaca block, chest drain etc
  • To enhance your communication skills with patients relatives and colleagues
  • To keep up to date with mandatory training required for your role
  • To participate in the annual appraisal process
