Maternity Tobacco Dependence Support Advisor
This job is now closed
Job summary
An exciting opportunity has arisen within the NUH Maternity Tobacco Dependence service for a Tobacco dependence support advisor, enthused about all aspects of tobacco dependency and seeking to enhance and develop skills in this field. The Maternity Tobacco Dependence Support Advisor will be part of the NUH Tobacco Dependence service. This has been established to meet the NHS Long Term plan requirement to offer NHS funded tobacco dependence treatment to all inpatients and pregnant individuals identified as smokers. Smoking during pregnancy is often heavily demonised and stigmatised, which can make it challenging to have open and supportive conversations with pregnant individuals who smoke. The post holder will work within our existing friendly maternity tobacco dependence team to provide targeted smoking cessation support throughout pregnancy and the post natal period.
Main duties of the job
We are looking for an enthusiastic and self motivated team member who wants to provide the best possible outcome for their patients.
The main duties of the role will involve providing behavioural support, using interventions such as CO monitoring, and advising on and facilitating access to Nicotine replacement therapy and other stop smoking aids as appropriate to pregnant individuals identified as smokers. The post holder will develop individual tobacco treatment programmes for pregnant individuals and signpost partners and other family members to local stop smoking services. The post holder will be responsible for creating a safe, non-judgemental environment, focusing on the health risks to both the mother and the baby while offering practical support and resources to help the individual quit. Encouraging individuals to enable them to be empowered to make healthier choices by demonstrating kindness and compassion.
The post holder will work closely and effectively with ward and maternity staff across NUH, the local stop smoking services in the community and other key stakeholders as appropriate.
The post holder is required to have registered with the National Centre for Smoking Cessation and Training and have completed/be in the process of completing the Practitioner training along with the Pregnancy and Mental Health Modules.
