Job summary

We are seeking a highly motivated and skilled Trust Grade Registrar in Otolaryngology to join our dynamic healthcare team. In this role, you will play a crucial role in the assessment, diagnosis, and treatment of patients with ear, nose, and throat (ENT) disorders. Your expertise and dedication will contribute to providing high-quality patient care, research, and training within the field of otolaryngology. The appointment is for a full-time position providing outpatient and operating theatre services to the population of Nottingham. This post is for an initial period of 12 months on a fixed term contract with a potential to extend which will be discussed with the appointed candidate at an appropriate time. Good and wide ranging experience at Registrar level in ENT is expected so as to enable the applicant to be able to undertake a safe, reliable comprehensive ENT examination and to be competent in the diagnosis of ENT conditions including malignant disease.

Main duties of the job

The position will require regular outpatient clinics including 2 week wait referrals, general ENT referrals and head and neck surgery referrals. In addition operating theatre presence will be required to support a nominated consultant. Duties are at Nottingham University Hospital.

The successful candidate is not expected to take part in the middle grade 'hot week' oncall rota nor is there a necessity to contribute to the middle tier of out of hour provision, though there is an explicit expectation for good communication should unexpected admissions be required by the candidate from clinic or following an operation performed with the candidate.

They will be expected to help with the training of new junior doctors (F2 - ST2) and medical students, when they start in the department.

Flexible working is expected to form part of the position to enable maximum exposure to a variety of operating theatre consultants and subspecialties as well as support the efficient working out the ENT outpatient department.

About us

The ENT department is situated in a purpose built PFI building completed in 2000 and shared with Ophthalmology. The department therefore enjoys modern and well equipped facilities. There are thirteen outpatient consulting rooms, with three microscope/treatment rooms and a full range of equipment.

State-of-the-art videoendoscopic equipment has been installed in the outpatient department. There is a 34 bedded inpatient/day case ward for adults, shared with Maxillofacial Surgery and Ophthalmology and a 22 bedded paediatric surgical specialty ward. There are three ENT operating theatres as well as paediatric theatres with a wide range of equipment including CO2 and KTP lasers, and Image Guidance systems.

There is an established Head & Neck Robotic Surgery programme led by Mr Simons & Mr Sethi as well as close working links with Maxillofacial, Thoracic, Vascular & Upper GI Surgery.
